In Romania the long stay visa can be required for the following purposes:

1. Long stay visa for employment

• The long stay visa for employment is granted to foreign people based on the approval of the office for the Migration of Labor Force and of the Romanian Office for Immigrations.
• The approval of the Office for the Migration of Labor Force issues upon the request of the employee, who must prove the fact that a legal activity is carried out in Romania by him, and the foreign citizens can be employed on the territory of Romania within legally functioning employees, upon the cumulative complying with the following conditions:

1. The vacant places of work can not be filled by Romanian citizens, by citizens of the member states of the European Union, by citizens of the signatory states of the Convention regarding the European Economic Space, as well as by the permanent residents on the territory of Romania;
2. The comply with the special conditions of professional training, experience in activity and authorization required by the employee according to the legislation in force;
3. They prove the fact that they are qualified from a medical point of view for the carrying out of the respective activity and that they do not have criminal antecedents to make him/her incompatible with the activity he/her carries out or will carry out on the territory of Romania;
4. He/she is appointed in the annual enrolment approved by the Government Decision;
5. The Employees have paid on term the obligations towards the state budget;

2. The long stay visa for the carrying out of trade activities

• This type of visa is granted based on the approval of the Romanian Agency for Foreign Investments, to the foreign citizens who are or will become shareholders or associates of trade companies, with managing and administration attributions.

3. The long stay visa for other purposes

• The long stay visa for other purposes is granted, upon request, by the diplomatic missions or the consulate offices of Romania from the country in which they reside or or have the domicile, to the following categories of foreign citizens:

1. To those named managers of a trade company;
2. To those detached by a foreign country with registered office on the territory of a member state of the World Trade Organization, on one representative office, subsidiary or branch, on the territory of Romania, or to a trade company, Romanian legal person, whose associate/shareholder is the foreign company;
3. To those detached by an employee with headquarters abroad to a legal person in Romania, based on a trade agreement for service supplying concluded by the two parties;
4. Those whose access on the labor market in Romania is regulated by bilateral agreements concluded by Romania with other states;

4. The long stay visa for foreign citizens, family members of the Romanian citizens

• The long stay visa can be granted:

1. to foreign citizens married with Romanian citizens, with the condition that this is not a convenience marriage, found under the conditions provided in la art. 64, and if it has been concluded on the territory of Romania, the claimant to have had a stay right on that date;
2. to foreign citizens who prove that they are not married and who live with Romanian citizens, under the condition that these have at least one child;
3. to minor children, unmarried, including to those adopted;
4. to 1^st degree relatives on ascending line.

5. The long stay visa for the completion of the family

• The long stay visa for the completion of the family can be granted to foreign citizens holders of a temporary or permanent right of stay, as well as to refugees recognized by the Romanian state. These can request the completion of the family for:

1. husband/wife;
2. minor children, unmarried, of the holder of the right of stay and of the husband/wife, including the children jointly adopted by these;
3. minor children, unmarried, including adopted children, of the holder of right of stay, in the case in which they are in his/her effective care;
4. minor children, unmarried, including adopted children, of the husband/wife of the holder of right of stay, in the case in which they are in his/her effective care.

6. For the carrying out of economic activities

• The long stay visa for the carrying out of economic activities is granted to foreign citizens who will carry out economic activities independently or within family associations, according to the law regarding the organization and carrying out of economic activities by natural persons.

7. The long stay visa for the carrying out of professional activities

• The long stay visa for the individual carrying out of professional activities is granted to foreign citizens who will be carrying out activities according to the special laws regulating the conditions of exercising of the respective professions.

8. The long stay visa for studies

• The long stay visa for studies can be granted to foreign citizens, upon request, within the limit of the places established according to the law by the Romanian diplomatic missions and the consulate offices in the country in which these reside or have their domicile.

9. The long stay visa for humanitarian or religious activities

• The long stay visa for humanitarian or religious activities is granted to foreign citizens upon request, by the Romanian diplomatic missions or the consulate offices within the country in which these reside or have their domicile,
